650MW Gas-fired Plant

Perlis, Malaysia

Developed by Janakuasa Shareholder

PLANT DESCRIPTION

Combined Cycle Gas Fired Power Plant - the exhaust heat from the gas turbines is utilized to generate steam to power the steam turbine. Configuration comprises of three ALSTOM GT 13E2 gas turbines, three heat recovery generator system and one steam turbine generator. The power plant configuration is capable of producing a total plant capacity of 675MW on combined cycle operation

The power plant is constructed on a 37.5 hectares coastal site at Kuala Sungai Baru in Perlis, Malaysia. Electricity generated is transmitted via a 17km 275kV transmission line connected to the National Utility 275kV system and two short 132kV double circuits connected to the National Utility 132kV line.

Supply of natural gas is via a 25km, 18-inch gas lateral pipeline connected from the National Oil and Gas Company main gas pipeline. The 275kV and 132kV transmission line and the 25km gas spur line forms the overall interconnection facilities of the power plant.

1200 MW Coal Plant

DUYEN HAI, VIETNAM

PLANT DESCRIPTION

In 2005, Janakuasa made a decision to seek opportunities to develop power plant projects in other Asian countries. This marks a new chapter for Janakuasa as it began developmental initiatives into power projects in the overseas market. This move is made possible because of the proven track record of stability and strong cash flows the Perlis plant has shown since commencing operations.

The countries identified for developmental opportunities include India, China, Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand. Janakuasa’s IPP track record was recognised by the Vietnam Government and in 2010 the Company received state approval to develop a 1200 MW coal-fired power plant in Duyen Hai 2 (“DH2”) as Build- Operate-Transfer scheme.

Janakuasa appointed Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 2 to undertake feasibility studies on DH2. This has since been reviewed and approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam. had since been approved. DH2’s ground breaking ceremony was held on 3 August 2016.

The first unit of 600 MW has achieved commercial operations in June 2021.
This project was developed by Janakuasa with a strong partne

78MW Wind Power Plan

TRA VINH, VIETNAM

PLANT DESCRIPTION

In 2018, Janakuasa decided to pivot towards greener energy projects to support global green energy initiatives. As a result, Janakuasa has secured the right to build, operate and maintain a 78 MW  wind power plant in the province of Tra Vinh Vietnam.

The plant consists of 18 wind turbines totalling 78 MW near-shore Hiep Thanh Wind Power Plant (“Tra Vinh II”) located in Hiep Thanh, Tra Vinh Province, South Vietnam. Tra Vinh II will have a high development impact in terms of local sustainable development and will play a key role in Vietnam’s contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (UN SDGs).

Tra Vinh II will be of special importance to providing additional renewable energy capacity and creation of employment in a remote area where there are limited opportunities for employment.

This project was developed by Janakuasa and its partners.

PLANT OVERVIEW

  • Capacity: 78 MW

  • Site Area: 2700 hectares (including transmission line corridor)

  • Target Plant COD: End of 2020

  • Project Cost: USD 180 million

  • Tariff Feed: 9.8 cents

  • Concession period: 20 years (PPA signed with EVN)

  • Estimated Power Generation: 257.4 gigawatts/year of renewable power

  • People powered: 180,975

  • Carbon Emissions reduced: 123,537 tonnes (tC02eq/year)

Tra Vinh II will supports Vietnam government initiatives for green energy with strong goals for the wind and solar sector (targeted capacity for wind is 800 megawatts (MW) by 2020, 2,000 MW by 2024 and 6,000 MW installed by 2030).

Janakuasa aims to support the government’s ambition of reducing reliance on fossil fuels, hydropower and energy imports through the implementation of renewable energy projects. It is looking to develop other potential phases of wind power of up to another 400MW.
